David
Weisert : Relative Chaos
I first notice arranger/composer David Weisert of Relative
Chaos on the many BB's promoting his collection of instrumental arrangements
and musical colours. Later, I became aware of his constant efforts towards
helping Dixie Lewellyn raise the much needed money for her liver transplant.
As I read David's posts and listened to his musings, I couldn't help
but note the sincerity and positive outlook he shared with everyone.
Though not the most flamboyant of the artists I've met online, it was
a pleasure to chat with David one night after many attempts to connect....
Mb: Hey Dave
Dave: How's it going Mike!
Mb: Is good... burning the midnight oil.....you?
Dave: Just got back from dinner after a rather long day at work.
Mb: Toss me a link to your page so I can listen while we talk.
Dave: http://www.ampcast.com/music/21614/artist.php
Mb: I see you're at ampcast.. not mp3.com?
Dave: I'm actually at both. I'm using ampcast as my home now because
of the quick turnaround times and I can sell "Redbook" CDs.
I still have mp3.com as well, only stripped down a bit.
Mb: What's a Redbook CD?
Dave: I can mix a master CD here with all the cool cross-fades and such,
send it to them and they use that as their master. It's also .wave format
instead of mp3. Gives the customers a little better product.
Mb: So what inspires you to write music?
Dave: Tough question. I guess the best answer for me is that it's a form
of emotional release.
Mb: Do you play an instrument?
Dave: I'm learning guitar, still not good at it. And a little bit of
key boards. I know it sounds kind of backwards but I can loop my stuff
and it sounds better. Lots of editing.
Mb: I noticed the loops... you working with "Acid"?
Dave: I record in Acid 2 Pro for the time being. I also used their loops,
have about 15 or 16 discs of theirs, plus those from data Becker and
ones I create myself.
Mb: I imagine a bit of software like Acid has revolutionized the way
you made music.
Dave: It's a blessing and a curse. It's a great starting point.
Mb: How did you make music before loops?
Dave : Funny thing is, I can remember making semi-loops off a keyboard
and a tape recorder in the late seventies. If I only took it a step further
they would have been called David's Loops instead of Acid and such. :-D
Mb: lol....isn't that always the way.
Dave: Yep.
Mb: So let's switch tracks.. What do you think about what's going
on in the world right now?
Dave: Hmm, another toughie. I guess you already know that I'm a conservative.
There is alot of tension in the world today, as there always will be.
I'm trying to form my words here correctly.
Mb: Willing to live with it or would you like to do something about
it?
Dave: Oh, I'm never willing to live with anything that I have the power
to change. I hope our system of checks and balances works.
Mb: You sound like you have faith in the system.
Dave: I'm a scientist, so I deal with cold hard facts everyday of my
life. It's scary out there. One must have faith. Did that make any sense?
Mb: As a scientist aren't you the first to believe that any interpretation
of reality is possible? Look at the leaps and bounds in science all because
science looked at things from a different perspective, in the end shattering
our previous assumptions?
Dave: That is correct sir. It's kind of funny. I went to a Christian
School to become an earth scientist. I'm a conservative environmental
engineer. Talk about playing with both ends of the sword. There is only
one true science.
Mb: Which is ...Engineering?
Dave: Math. You will always get a correct answer. Any other science is
largely, and I use that word very liberally, based on theory.
Mb: Someday math will be something different too. It is all based
on assumptions.
Dave: I think it is already starting to evolve.
Mb: So what's exciting for you right now? life ? love? biz?
Dave: Yes, yes and yes. :-D
Mb: lol... are you a lucky man?
Dave: hehe
Mb: Or are you a worker bee?
Dave: I used to be. Now that I'm a father I make sure I take the time
for them.
Mb: How old are your kids?
Dave: 8 and 9.
Mb: Would you like to say hell? [sic]... I mean "hello"....
lol.....or both?
Dave: rotfl .... Hi Chris and Jon. Put the dog down!
Mb: So what goes on in your head that you want to share with people?
Dave: I try to mix my music to make people think.
Mb: Think what?
Dave: Not sure if "think" was the right word. When I create
a track, I want the listener see the music. To feel the music. To touch
it.
Mb: Does it ever bite?
Dave: "Linus Grows Up" almost did. That one actually bit ME
in the rear. I
almost threw that track away.
Mb: Not happy with your work that day?
Dave: I really doesn't fit the "Relative Chaos" soundscape
sound. I wrote that one evening, played it for Lisa. We tweeked it a
bit and I was gonna shelve it for some other stuff. When we created "The
Collection" for the Dixie Fund, we put it in there and the blessed
track took off.
Mb: I see you're a bigger supporter of the Dixie drive.
Dave : I try to be. We still give what we can each month and hope and
pray this will work out for her and Les.
Mb: Is helping people important to you?
Dave: Very. Looking forward to bringing out the new"Collection"
at ampcast. All proceeds, like before will go to Dixie.
Mb: So what's the future hold for you?
Dave: Musically, alot. In the very near future. We have a 70-minute version
of "The Collection" with enhanced effects and sound. And by
the new year another studio album titled "Midnight Carnival".
Mb: And your last words are.....?
Dave: No matter how hard and bleak our future may look always remember
that a greater good comes from the sorrow. It's a shame that it has to
be like this, but that is the way of the world.
Mb: You sure sound like a Christian.
Dave: Thank you very much.
