There are few, familiar to the online musician BB world, that don't know Larree. His determination to promote his music and online personality have garnered him over 400,000 listens at mp3.com alone, and a strong following of the threads he creates on various BB ensure his voice be heard. Known for his sometimes crass "from the hip" approach, his sentiment speaks to "everyman" and a "take no crap" attitude. One of the great finds online, I chatted with Mr. Larry Rosenblum, musician, provoker and baseball card king from his palace in Los Angeles, California...

Mb: Larree!
Larree: Hi !!!
Mb: How's going?
Larree: Excellent! Got my coffee and I am rockin !!!
Mb: Cool... What do you want to talk about?
Larree: You are the interviewer! I am preparing to record a bunch of new, never heard before songs, and getting into film making !!!
Mb: So it would be your art then. Why do you make music?
Larree: I suppose I could say that I create music for the love of it, or to try to make money, but really... *Like my newest rap song "F*CK" says, I do it because I have to. It just comes out of me. *Like a natural bodily function. Everything else is true...the love of music and potential to earn money... But I simply "have to" make music... Sometimes writing songs can actually be a very "painful" experience if I am writing a more personal song, like two of the songs that I will be recording for my next album, "She Cries Inside", and "Noah's Song".
Mb: I'm checking out your page at mp3.com... over 300,000 listens. Very impressive. What's been your secret to getting the word out?
Larree: Actually, I just passed 400K !!! Last year I used the MP3.com auction promos to get my name all over the place, and I drew many people to my site. I also utilize some very good URL submission tools, so I have links everywhere !!!
Mb: Not to mention some strong material to keep them coming back.
Larree: Thank you !!! And I also make a point of changing my page often, so that when people do come back it is always a little different !!!
Mb: Very complete page. You obviously believe that a web presence is important. Do you promote in the "real" world as well?
Larree: I have had some "real world" success in the past. When I released the original recording of my "What Would They Tell?" CD, which was recorded by my band at the time, Inhabitants of the Western Wasteland, and called "Nobody for President", I got some radio airplay and had a good live thing going, but you know how bands can be !!! :) We broke up.. :( And in the early eighties, my song NEVER GONNA WORK was the morning wake-up song on KROQ here in Los Angeles. As I prepare to record my next CD, I will be taking my music out live to the public again and I am looking forward to it !!!
Mb: Your music and presence seems a tad antagonistic. Do you feel you have something that has to be said?
Larree: I have some happy friendly songs !!! :) But seriously, I feel that my entire "What Would They Tell?" CD, although the songs were written a while ago, is filled with very relevant music for our current times... As far as my "attitude" goes... I read a music connection magazine one day that said, in so many words, "If you are over 30, give it up"... I am on a one man crusade against age discrimination in the music biz... I am a pissed off old (right) dude !!!
Mb: lol... I've seen you being "told off" for some of your responses on the BB's... How does that make you feel? You've even slagged me!! lol Of course that's when you got my attention...Good work!
Larree: Well I guess I had better not "slag" you anymore !!! :) Dig. If I let things that people say get to me, I should not even be here trying to get people to listen to my art... My inner self... Everything that is me... I can take whatever people dish out !!! And I admit when I am wrong !!I I'll tell everyone that I feel like a #%$#@ !!! The world is too crazy to hold grudges, so I go with the flow and roll with the punches, and I land plenty of blows myself !!! And I love to kiss and make up !!!
Mb: So you're a fan of the conflict?
Larree: Of course...NOT !!! I wish we were living in Mr. Roger's Neighborhood !!! I wish it was mellow all the time !!! But when you get a bunch of artists living in their own solar systems getting together on a BB, anything can happen !!! Everybody needs attention !!!
Mb: Tell me about film making. What's going on?
Larree: I have loved movies as long as I have loved music, of course !!! Two of the first albums I ever bought were the "Dr. No" and "Goldfinger" soundtracks. And over the years I have created many cool ideas and stories for films that have not been done yet !!! I guess I got "sparked" again by playing around the other day on that cool little animation website, www.dfilm.com... Anyway, my sister has worked in film and TV, we talked, and now we are starting a production company !!! I just signed up for some film production courses at UCLA so that I can learn all I can about my new chosen field !!!
Mb: What's your first project?
Larree: A murder mystery/dark comedy that will be shot right here my home town of L.A. !!!
Mb: That sounds like a big project. What do you do for a living?
Larree: Actually, we feel it we will be able to pull it off as a a small to medium budget indie project. Now if we wanted to do a sci-fi film.... :) I've had a bunch of crazy jobs, and even tripped around as a street musician for years... but my brother and I were smart... we saved every baseball card we ever got when we were kids !!! And in the eighties, when cards were huge, we did really good. Now I am semi-retired and pursuing my artistic desires !!!
Mb: lol..Thanks fantastic!. Does 60 minutes know?
Larree: HAHAHAHA
Mb: What are your final words to our readers and listeners.
Larree: Well, my final words are more along the lines of a pep talk for my fellow artists who read your work, as opposed to plugging myself !!! Just keep on believing in yourself, learn all that you can about what you want to be doing, and do NOT let other people's opinions weigh too heavily on your decisions !!! Go with what you feel inside, and if you do mess up... LEARN from it !!! Don't dwell in that space for too long !!! I've been as down as I have been up, and you can always get back up. No matter what !!! Keep on rockin' your A$$ off !!!
Mb: You talking to me?
Larree: HAHAHAHA !!! I'm talking to EVERYONE !!!
